Return of the Psychic Octopus!
by Brian Alterman on Jul.06, 2010, under News, Sports
In an attempt to break out of the doldrums of typical octopus life and take up a new career as scungilli, a German octopus whose bold (there really is a need for a sarcasm font) prediction that Germany would beat England was previously posted here has decided to go against his nation of origin and pick Spain to defeat Germany in the semifinals of the World Cup. Now you might say “Hey, that squid is only picking them because they are the number 2 ranked team in the world”. This may be true, but I think there is more to it. Sure Spain are the defending European champions, but they have performed well below expectations so far. They lost the first game of the tournament to Switzerland and as everyone knows no team has ever lost the first game and gone on to win it all. While Germany blew powerhouse Argentina out of the water 4-0 in the quarter finals, Spain squeaked by Paraguay (Ranked 31 in the world) 1-0. But, as anyone knows, soccer is as corrupt as boxing and I think this little cephalopod is in on the action. Mark my words, the money follows the octopus.
