Saturday Morning Cartoons: The Incredible Hulk (60s Style!)
by Daniel Roos on Aug.18, 2012, under Television
Oh, the 60s! Back when animation was so less animated. Don’t believe me? Check out this animated “origin story” of the Incredible Hulk, which looks about as real as a head-in-the-pants piledriver. I’m pretty sure me and some friends could do better than this over our lunch breaks now.
It’s the classic Hulk origin, with Dr. Bruce Banner about to test a gamma bomb. His assistant Igor (sans hump) is plotting against him. The militant General “Thunderbolt” Ross (alias “Captain Thunderpants”) is there to chew out the good doctor for no particular reason. But the General’s sexy daughter, Betty, in a scandalous ankle-revealing dress, is there to smooth things over. For her troubles, Betty is told, “Keep out of this Betty, it’s man-talk!” All that’s missing is, “Knit me a sweater, woman!” This gem is worth watching, if only for the theme song that manages to rhyme “Gamma rays” with “unglamorous.” Impressive!
