Fear the Zim Bear
by Brian Alterman on Feb.23, 2012, under Sports
In an apprent attempt to frighten and confuse anyone who might for some reason be a fan of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays the team will be giving out Zim Bears on June 29th. The Detroit Tigers will be in town, and what better way to celebrate your team losing, than to go home with something that will undoubtedly give your children nightmares. The bears were best described at Big League Stew:
…half-crusty old coach Don Zimmer, half-cuddly teddy bear and 100 percent terrifying.

St. Elmo is Out – Tim Tebow is In

John Parr, the artist behind 80s hit song St. Elmo’s Fire, has released a modified version: “Tim Tebow’s Fire.” Think I’m kidding? See and believe, Seers and Believers! (Can Kenny Loggins’ “Highway to the End Zone” be far behind?)

Pixar’s Brave Exposed As Fraud – NOT a biopic of Atlanta Braves!
by Daniel Roos on Dec.22, 2011, under Movies, News, Sports
Like many hapless Americans, I have been looking forward to the next Pixar movie Brave. Not because it’s from Pixar — the computer animated studio responsible for a number of classic films such as Wall-E, Finding Nemo, & Toy Story. And certainly not because Brave appears to be a family friendly tale of a red-haired girl in a tribe of Scots earning her place via courage (a.k.a. bravery).
No, I simply assumed Brave was based on the life story of Major League Baseball franchise the Atlanta Braves. The little red-headed girl clearly a stand-in for Braves great Chipper Jones. Fortunately, the Atlanta Braves are suing Pixar to cease and desist this fraud.
Think it seems frivolous? I dare you to watch the trailer and try not to imagine Brave is closely affiliated with the Atlanta Braves. The two are interchangeable in my mind now. (continue reading…)

Tim Tebow: Harbinger of Doom & Hee-Haw? Say What?
by Daniel Roos on Dec.16, 2011, under News, Sports
I like Denver Bronco’s unorthodox and curiously controversial quarterback Tim Tebow. A lot. Not enough to burn down mosques or watch Hee Haw 2012 as some think. But Tebow’s a lot of things I am: Christian, Home Schooled, Physically Gifted Athlete, Heisman Trophy Winner, etc.
Heck, I wasn’t even that upset when he pulled his patented “Tebow Magic” on my beloved Chicago Bears. (As the Bears are pretty much done anyway this year.) But some don’t like the guy. Like who? And why? Let’s ask, Rabbi Joshua Hammerman who posted an article “My Problem With Tim Tebow” which has since been removed with an apology. Why apologize for an opinion piece on a popular athlete? Well, I didn’t just make up the whole “burning down mosques” and bringing back “Hee-Haw” bits, that’s from the Rabbi himself. (It’s good to know every religion has a Pat Robertson.) The text of said article went something like this: (continue reading…)
