In the early 90s, Robert Smigel & Conan O’Brien wrote and produced a pilot called Lookwell. It starred the great Adam West as Ty Lookwell, a vain, washed up actor. Lookwell dons a Fonz outfit and fails at an audition for Happy Days: The Next Generation; he teaches an acting class where he uses tapes of his 70s cop show Bannigan to illuminate scenes from MacBeth. SnarkCriticPop is on board with Team Coco.  I’ve watched Conan O’Brien off and on since he succeeded Letterman on Late Night, and have always enjoyed his stuff . . . when I’m watching TV late night. 

Apologies to Conan, but I have no doubt that I will treat his debut on TBS similarly to his ascension to the coveted Tonight Show slot last year.  That is to say, I’ll DVR the first few episodes, enjoy it, lost interest, and only watch every now and then when there’s a guest I want to see (Norm MacDonald!) or a band I like (Mute Math!).  Sorry, Conan, it’s just life is too short to spend an hour a day watching a silly talk show.  But, if I were to spend an hour a day watching a silly talk show, that hour would be wasted on your silly talk show, Conan!

News item # 1:

Apparently, the Emmys are happening Sunday (who knew?) and Jimmy Fallon is hosting (who cares?).  Saw a news bite that, even though Conan O’Brien cannot appear due to his contract with NBC, Fallon is going to be referencing Conan on the telecast on NBC.  Here’s hoping Fallon does something out of character and pays homage to Conan by ACTUALLY BEING FUNNY.

News item # 2:

Justin Bieber is rumored to be put in the Michael J. Fox role of a Back to the Future remake/reboot.  My comment: I have nothing against Bieber, it’s just Biebermania that annoys me.  Hollywood, please don’t make another Back to the Future.  Not because it’s an untouchable classic, but because it’s really pathetically lazy.  If you’d like, I’ve got a wholly original teen-time-travel-action-comedy that you can use as a vehicle for Bieber.  It’s called KID GOES BACK IN TIME AND IS EATEN BY A TYRANNOSAURUS REX.
