Snark, Critic and Pop!

I recently reacquired the Starz movie channel package, opening up a wide range of otherwise inaccessible films that I would otherwise have to actually rent or purchase to watch. For reasons yet unknown to scientists, the first flick I sat down and actually watched was the animated, John Travolta voiced talking dog picture, Bolt.

This isn’t a movie I’d ever seek out. If, at any point during the screening, something remotely interesting had presented itself — from a housecall from a Jehovah’s Witness to a rerun of the Andy Griffith Show — I would have certainly turned away from Bolt in a heartbeat. (continue reading…)

Miley Cyrus, seen here contemplating the Indian food she had for lunch, had her house raided by police after they received a report of a possible kidnapping and shooting.  The armed police responded along with helicopters and a rescue crew but the house was empty.  Turns out this is called swatting – getting the swat team to respond to a non existentemergency.  Police are investigating the culprit who will be charged with filing a false report and getting everyone’s hopes up only to dash them against the rocks of reality.  Thanks, jerk.

The nominations for the 31st annual Razzies are out and Twilight: Eclipse tied The Last Airbender with 9 nominations to lead the pack.  Despite the fact that Twilight is a blight upon the world, it is hard for me to believe it will be able to slow down the speeding locomotive that is the terribleness of the Last Airbender.  M Night Shyamalan also received Razzie nominations for worst director and screenplay.  Oh, how the mighty have fallen… it’s like he is Orson Wells and Sixth Sense was his Citizen Kane, except that his failure to live up to it has nothing to do with Randolph Hearst and everything to do with a lack of ideas or film making skills. 

This year the Razzies have added a new award:  worst eye-gouging misuse of 3D.  Don’t let anyone tell you they are not with the times.  The biggest drama will be in the worst actress category (continue reading…)
