I saw Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon this week. Please, don’t send cards, I’m okay. I really believe that Michael Bay had a highly entertaining, escapist, child-of-the-80s, hour and a half action film. Unfortunately, the movie that made its way into theaters is two and a half frickin’ hours long.
The plot is roughly the same as the previous two and the 80s cartoon (which raised me from a mere cub): Evil transmorphing alien robots the Decepticons plot to rule the Earth, as good guy transmorphing robot aliens the Autobots fight with noble humans to save the planet, freedom, and the American way. What’s strange is that this, third film and third Decepticon plot seems to be much more thought out than the previous two. The seeds of this diabolical scheme were planted chronologically half a century prior to the events of the previous two films. Why was the Dark of the Moon then relegated to Plan C? Er . . . . I was loathe to write this article. On the one hand, the removal of these irritating, racist robots from the upcoming Transformers 3 has to be a good thing. But there are certain implications in this news… There will be a Transformers 3 and Michael Bay continues to make movies among the most frightening.
